About Backline

You'll Deal With the Guy Doing the Work.

I'm Travis Hale, owner of Backline Grading Co. I answer the phone, look at the property, explain the work, and run the equipment.

How Backline started

Gravel Was Where I Started.

I grew up outside Prattville and started working around gravel and landscape materials before moving into residential grading. That taught me how different stone behaves, how much material a job actually takes, and how quickly poor drainage can undo good work.

In 2019, I bought a used skid steer and started taking weekend jobs. Driveway repairs, gravel spreading, and small grading work became the foundation of Backline.

More Gravel Is Not Always the Answer.

I kept seeing the same pattern: a homeowner wanted another load of gravel, but the driveway had lost its crown or the water had nowhere to go. Covering the rough spots would leave the real problem underneath. That is why I look at the grade and drainage first.

How we work

Three Things Backline Never Skips.

Grade First

We read the slope and the water before we touch the stone. Most fixes are grade and drainage problems wearing a gravel disguise.

Small Company. Practical Equipment.

The Harley rake joined the setup in 2020, and the mini excavator followed in 2022. Today, a small crew handles gravel driveways, drainage, culverts, yard grading, and pads with equipment that fits residential and rural jobs.
