Our services

Gravel Driveways, Drainage & Grading Done Right.

Backline Grading Co. fixes driveways, moves water, and shapes ground around Wetumpka and Elmore County. Before we recommend stone, we look at the grade and the drainage, because that is usually where the real problem lives.

What we do

Six Core Services. One Simple Standard.

Every job gets the same treatment: understand the ground, control the water, then shape the surface so it lasts. Jump to the service you need, or scroll to see how each one works.

Gravel Driveways

Driveway Repair & Grading

Potholes, ruts, washboarding, and washouts are almost always a grade and drainage problem, not a gravel problem. We reshape the surface, restore the crown, and reclaim usable gravel so the repair lasts longer than the next rain.

If the base is still sound, our Harley rake reclaims the stone already on your driveway instead of burying it under another load.

  • Restore the crown so water sheds to both sides
  • Reclaim embedded gravel instead of replacing it
  • Fill potholes and smooth ruts and washboarding
  • Rebuild soft or washed-out shoulders
  • Grade the base so the surface stays put

New Gravel Driveways

New Gravel Driveways

Access to a new home, shop, or rural lot starts with the base and the grade. We prepare the subgrade, shape the crown, and place the right stone in the right thickness for your soil and how you will use it.

We handle shorter residential and rural access drives, and we can advise on material type and depth before any stone is ordered.

  • Clear and prep the driveway path
  • Establish grade and drainage before stone goes down
  • Shape a proper crown for runoff
  • Place and compact stone in lifts
  • Leave clean ditches and shoulders

Drainage

Drainage Correction

Standing water is the first sign the grade is not working. We reshape the ground, cut swales and ditches, and add pipe where water needs a direct path away from your driveway, house, or yard.

  • Grade and swale to direct runoff
  • Cut and reshape ditches
  • Install drainage pipe where needed
  • Fix wet spots around foundations and drives
  • Protect gravel from being carried off

Culverts

Culvert Installation & Repair

A blocked or undersized culvert backs water up onto your driveway. We install and replace driveway pipes, set them at the right slope, and build up the ground so water flows through instead of over.

  • Install or replace driveway culverts
  • Set correct slope and cover
  • Repair washed-out pipe ends
  • Regrade over and around the pipe
  • Recommend the right size for your flow

Yard Grading

Yard Grading

Rough, uneven ground holds water and makes the property hard to use. We level and shape yards, correct the slope around buildings, and prep ground for grass, gravel, or a future project.

  • Smooth and level rough ground
  • Move water away from structures
  • Fill low spots and level high ones
  • Prep for seeding, sod, or gravel
  • Final grade for pads and buildings

Pads & Parking Areas

Gravel Pads & Parking Areas

From a level spot for a shop or barn to a gravel parking area that drains, we prepare a compacted, graded base that stays usable through wet weather.

  • House, shop, and barn pads
  • Gravel RV and trailer parking
  • Compaction and leveling
  • Drainage so the pad stays dry
  • Turnaround and access areas

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need more gravel, or is it a grade problem?

Most driveway problems are a grade and drainage problem, not a gravel problem. If water stands in low spots or the crown has flattened, adding gravel only hides the issue temporarily. Backline looks at the grade and drainage first, then recommends stone only where it is actually needed.

How do I know if my driveway needs a culvert?

If water runs over your driveway, pools at the entrance, or washes gravel off the surface after rain, a culvert or a better drainage path may be the fix. Send photos and describe what happens when it rains, and Travis can help you decide.

Can you work on a long rural driveway?

Yes. Backline regularly works on long rural and wooded driveways around Elmore County and nearby areas. Compact track equipment fits through tighter access points where larger machinery would not.

Do you spread gravel I already bought?

In many cases, yes. Spreading and grading delivered stone can be part of the job when the access and material are a good fit for the equipment.

Not sure what you need?

Send a Few Photos. Get a Straight Answer.

You do not need to diagnose the problem before calling. Tell Travis where the property is and what happens when it rains, and he will help narrow down the work before arranging a closer look.
